Whitby District Lions Club
Whitby District Lions Club has proudly served Whitby and the surrounding communities since 1970. The club is part of a network of other clubs around the country and world wide that make up Lions International. Our 1.35 million members who perform community service in 209 countries, share a core belief “We Serve” which demonstrates our members determination to help people less fortunate than ourselves and support our communities.
During in 2022 alone Whitby Lions donated £11,500.00 to local charities and good causes. They range from a variety of excellent local charities such as Whitby Wish, The Friends of Pannett Park, Whitby Wildlife, Whitby District Scouts and Guides, Whitby RNLI, St Catherin’s Hospice, The Eskdale Festival of Arts to Wet Wheels Yorkshire. We also support many local activities of some larger national charities such as Parkinson’s UK, British Heart Foundation, Cancer and Research UK. Some of the projects that we are involved in and donate to have gone to help buy and install defibrillators in Pannett Park and around the town, helping towards the cost of running the scout hall in Whitby to giving disabled children the opportunity to enjoy an action-packed weekend away.
100% of the money the club raises through the Colour Run and our other events is donated directly to the charities, meaning our club resources are a vital funding pot that can be easily accessed without going through complicated grant application routes. The club’s administration costs are covered by our members who pay a modest membership fee each year.
