Event description
We are unbelievably proud to announce that, after years of hard work, we finally have a 1.0 version of Crystal!

About this event

For a long, long time, it was accepted that programming languages couldn’t be simultaneously programmer-friendly and efficient. In 2011, we set out to prove that assumption was wrong. Crystal is the result of that experiment, and the source of much joy, fun and growth for everyone involved.

With thousands of contributions from people worldwide, it was finally possible to reach the level of maturity required for a 1.0 milestone.

And that calls for celebration!

The Crystal Conference will be livestreamed, to make sure that the entire global community that has formed around Crystal can attend.

Guest speakers in the conference include:

Ary Borenszweig, original creator of Crystal, and ever since member of the Core Team.

Yukihiro 'Matz' Matsumoto, creator of Ruby and its reference implementation, Matz's Ruby Interpreter (MRI).

Bruce Perens, creator of the Open Source definition and co-founder of the Open Source Initiative, who has been working on the internationalization of Crystal.

Isaac Sloan, Software Architect at Nikola Motors, a hydrogen-powered truck manufacturer and one of the largest contributors to the language.

Peter Schols, CEO & Founder of Diploid, who developed Moon, the first software that goes from genetic data to a provisional diagnosis in just a few minutes, saving patients hours or even days.

Bar Hofesh, CTO at NeuraLegion & Oliver Moradov, VP at NeuraLegion, a Tel Aviv based cybersecurity company.

Ian Rash, a generative artist and security researcher, who will be speaking about different ways to make art with Crystal.

Noah Lehmann-Haupt will be presenting how to build powerful reactive web apps with Crystal and Svelte.

Igor Alexandrov, CTO of JetRockets, a NY based technology service provider.

Kingsley Hendrickse, creator of the Axentro blockchain platform, developed in Crystal.

Pablo Tesone, an engineer at the Pharo Consortium, will be talking about the Pharo Project, a pure object-oriented programming language with a powerful development environment.

Giorgi Kavrelishvili, creator of the Grip framework and long time Crystal contributor, will be talking about Native GUI development using HTML-CSS-JS.

Alex Potanin, Associate Professor at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, and co-lead for the Wyvern Programming Language.

Nicolas Ganz, research assistant at ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, will be showing performance comparisons of Crystal with Ruby, C and Go.

Stephen Dolan, Director of Account Engineering at MerchLogix and founder of LuckyCasts.com.

Jeremy Woertink, Core Team member for the Lucky Framework.

KC Erb, Ph.D. in theoretical physics, will be speaking about his experience using Crystal in applied science.

Will Harris & Taylor Carpenter, from Vulk Coop in Austin, TX, will speak about using Crystal to build a testing framework and suite of tests that help end-users check usage of cloud native practices.

Duke Nguyen, a Sydney-based Software Engineer at PlaceOS, will be talking about Crystal macros in Practice.

Gábor Szabó will tell us how a developer with 35+ years of experience in other languages, but 0 background in Crystal, can learn the language and create a web app in just 30 days.

Guilherme Bernal, Co-Founder and CTO at Cubos.io, a software development company in Bahia, Brazil.
