Palm Springs Public Library Foundation
Enriching Lives - Connecting Community - Inspiring Growth - Sparking Creativity
For over a century, Palm Springs has recognized the importance of a thriving local library. From a small adobe housing its first books in 1919 to today’s stacks holding over 100,000 resource items, the library has diligently and loyally served the residents of Palm Springs.
The mission of the Palm Springs Public Library Foundation is to continue that legacy. We aim to support the Palm Springs Public Library and to increase and broaden its use as a cultural and educational institution through financial support securing its place as an essential community resource.
Ensuring local access to high-quality library services for generations requires more than just tax-based funding. Although public funds make libraries possible, it is private gifts that make them flourish.
To that end, the Palm Springs Public Library Foundation seeks to create a long-term supplemental funding program based on private contributions to augment government budgets.
Donors value public libraries, but prefer making philanthropic gifts to non-profit, tax-exempt private library foundations, where value can be maximized. Such foundations are eligible for grants and appeal to grantors whose policies prevent donating to tax-supported entities.
The Foundation raises funds for projects that nurture, safeguard, and support the Palm Springs Library for centuries to come: Purchase or construction of facilities, renovation of existing facilities, purchase and maintenance of materials, collections and electronic resources. It supports adult literacy programs, children's services, and community enrichment programs.
The Foundation also offers programming to the community to nourish diversity, celebrate authors voices, and to support the goal of life-long learning opportunities through programs such as Pride on the Page Book Festival, Brunch on the Page, and other events.
