Glasgow Gifford Bequest Committee
This prestigious lecture series is organised by the Gifford bequest committee at the University of Glasgow. The Gifford Lectures are an annual series of public talks which were established in 1887 by the will of Adam Lord Gifford. The endowment supports lecture series at the universities of Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and St Andrews. A list of all lectures delivered at the four universities can be found here. The first set of lectures on Natural, Physical, Anthropological and Psychological Religion or Theosophy was delivered at Glasgow by Friedrich Max Müller between 1888-1892. The long list of notable speakers delivering Gifford Lectures at Glasgow since the late 1880s includes J. S. Haldane (1927-28), Carl Sagan (1985), Mary Warnock (1992), Vilayanur Ramachandran (2012), Jean-Luc Marion (2014), Judith Butler (2018) and T. J. Clark (2020).
