Within the centenary of the founding of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), and thanks to the joint efforts of the IUGG, the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI), the Argentine-German Geodetic Observatory (a joint initiative of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina -CONICET- and the Federal Agency of Cartography and Geodesy of Germany -BKG-), and the National Geographic Institute of the Argentine Republic (agency under the Secretariat of Research, Industrial Policy and Defense Production for the Ministry of Defense), an International Workshop will be held In Argentina to support the Implementation of the United Nations’ Resolution on the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (UN-GGRF) for Sustainable Development in Latin America.

The main objective of the Workshop is the development of capacities oriented to the implementation of the GGRF in Latin America, following the scientific definition released by IAG (and driven by the Geocentric Reference System for the Americas -SIRGAS-) and the political frame outlined by the Subcommittee on Geodesy (SCoG) of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).

The main idea is to provide the Latin American Organizations and Colleagues responsible for national geodetic reference frames with scientific and political tools to persuade policy makers and stakeholders about the importance of investing economic and human resources in the development of the national geodetic and geophysical infrastructure.

The Workshop is called International workshop for the implementation of the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF) in Latin America and will be held at the National Geographic Institute in Buenos Aires City, Argentina, from September 16 to 20, 2019. In addition, foreign visitors will have the opportunity to pay a visit to the Argentine-German Geodetic Observatory (AAGO) on Friday, September 20. Program

The workshop will be held in English from Monday, Sep 16th to Friday, Sep 20th, 2019. The preliminary schedule considers four slots per day with two coffee breaks of 30 min each one and a lunch break of two hours. A technical visit to AGGO is planned for Friday's afternoon.
